Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Biology

Founded in 1873 as a Christian liberal arts college and affiliated since 1920 with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, Blue Mountain College seeks applications and nominations for a faculty member in Biology as an Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall, 2017.

The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, one of eight academic units in the college, employs 7 FT faculty and enrolls over 75 students in its 6 different degree programs. Blue Mountain College seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to assist students in developing intellectual integrity, academic excellence, social awareness and Christian character. Blue Mountain College is located in the hills of Northeast Mississippi approximately 35 miles from Tupelo and 65 miles from Memphis, Tennessee in a small village, which bears the same name -Blue Mountain.

Blue Mountain College seeks an individual to teach undergraduate courses in cell biology, physiology, genetics, bioethics, immunology, biological research, medical microbiology as well as general biology.

Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include competency in the discipline, a high level of proficiency as a teacher, student recruitment, curriculum development, academic advising, committee service, and service to the department, college and the community.

Responsibilities: Teach courses in biology. Serve on college committees, provide student academic advisement and contribute professional expertise in a positive way to the profession and to the larger community.

Qualifications: Qualifications include an earned doctorate in biology or related field (ABD considered), background in biology, experience and demonstrated success in college teaching.

Department of Education

Interim (one-year position) Elementary Education

Founded in 1873 as a Christian liberal arts college and affiliated since 1920 with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, Blue Mountain College seeks applications and nominations for an interim faculty member in Elementary Education beginning fall, 2017.

The Department of Education, one of eight academic units in the college, employs 4 FT faculty and enrolls over 120 students in its 3 different degree programs. Blue Mountain College seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to assist students in developing intellectual integrity, academic excellence, social awareness and Christian character. Blue Mountain College is located in the hills of Northeast Mississippi approximately 35 miles from Tupelo and 65 miles from Memphis, Tennessee in a small village, which bears the same name -Blue Mountain.

Blue Mountain College seeks an individual to assist in the elementary education program. The institution currently offers two degrees in this field - the Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Education and the Master of Education in Elementary Education.

HEAD JV AND ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH

We at Blue Mountain College are interested in the selection of staff who are all Christian men and women, experts in their chosen field and who fully support, without qualification, the College’s purpose.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Head JV/ Assistant Softball Coach shall be responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach in directing and supervising the varsity softball program and directing and supervising the JV softball program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Head Softball Coach as assigned
  • Assist with on the field coaching for practice and games
  • Assist in the recruiting of student/athletes who are an asset to the institution
  • Maintain a roster of a minimum of 18
  • Maintain ethical standards in the softball program
  • Promote a positive image of the college throughout the district, state, and nation
  • Strictly adhere to NAIA and Southern States Athletic Conference rules and regulations
  • Assist in the monitoring of appropriate conduct of the student athlete on campus, the field, and at all college functions
  • Assist in the organization of the scouting of BMC opponents
  • Video analysis of games
  • Responsible for film exchange between BMC and other colleges/universities as assigned by the head coach
  • Assist in player development (pre-season, post-season, and individual workouts
  • Assist with the maintenance of equipment, distributing equipment, and supervision of equipment
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of all athletic facilities
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the baseball/softball complex
  • Assist with the academic advising and monitoring of academic progress of the student/athlete
  • Supervise study sessions required for the student/athlete as assigned by the head coach and of the JV program
  • Assist in the planning and conducting of Meet the Toppers
  • Direct and assist with summer softball camps
  • Assist with game promotions and advertising
  • Assist with the selling of Ads and the preparation of the Media Guide
  • Assist with the setting up of the field, etc. for practice and games
  • Attend the appropriate College meetings
  • Assigned as the head junior varsity softball coach and be responsible for all of the duties that are required to maintain a quality JV softball team (listed in assistant duties)
  • Recruit junior varsity team members that fit the mission, purpose and philosophy of BMC and the intercollegiate athletic program
  • Recruit and maintain junior varsity team members that contribute to a positive culture on the BMC campus, the classroom, the dorm, the dining hall and chapel
  • Maintain a self-funding junior varsity softball program
  • Be responsible for game day set up, take down, clean up and the recruiting of game day management personnel
  • Cooperate fully with other campus units as needed
  • Any other assignments deemed necessary by the head coach and/or the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate required; Master’s degree preferred
  • An understanding of softball fundamentals
  • Coaching experience and/or College playing experience
  • An understanding of the role of Intercollegiate Athletics in a Christian College environment
  • Excellent oral and communication skills
  • An excellent motivator and role model for student athletes
  • Understanding of, adherence to, and enforcement of safety procedures
  • Fostering of a cooperative environment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to travel
  • Valid commercial driver license with good driving record; must be insurable
