Qualifications and CharacteristicsThe president of Blue Mountain College is the chief executive officer who reports to the Board of Trustees and acts in accordance with the policies and by-laws of the college. The president of Blue Mountain College is expected to be a strategic and earnest leader of high character and integrity who fosters a dynamic academic community with vision and commitment informed by the Christian Mission of the college.
The successful candidate will be a member of a Baptist church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
The ideal candidate for the president of Blue Mountain College will have many of the following experiences and qualities.
- A leader who embraces the college’s Christian mission.
- Integrity.
- Visionary and imaginative leadership.
- Flexibility and openness to new ideas.
- A capacity for shaping and communicating an institutional vision in ways that are compelling to donors, the media, the community and the several and varied college constituents.
- Knowledge of and respect for the teaching and learning environment and the desire to advance excellence in teaching, scholarship, and curriculum development.
- A capacity to lead and mentor an effective college team, to delegate effectively, and to foster collaboration and shared purpose and to make fair, difficult and timely decisions.
- Budgeting and financial management ability.
- Willingness to advocate for higher education, active involvement with area peers and participation in regional and national initiatives and organizations.
- A visible and accessible leadership style on campus and the Blue Mountain community.
- A passion for students, enhancing learning and nurturing student development.
- A sense of humor while carrying out the demanding role of president of Blue Mountain College.
- An earned doctorate and/or a successful tenure related to the nature of leading an institution of higher education.
- An effective public communicator, both oral and written, and an understanding that the most important role of an effective communicator is being a good listener.
