Good Morning,

Today marks the beginning of “dead week,” which means we have reached that critical point in the semester when faculty and students are intensely focused on finishing well. I pray that each of you will have the time, energy, and determination to press on through these final challenging days of the 2017 fall semester toward a strong finish.

We are pleased to welcome as our chapel speaker today Dr. Jerry Rankin, former president of the International Mission Board. On Friday we will enjoy our annual Christmas concert featuring members of the BMC Chorale.

Congratulations are in order for the charter members of Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman honorary society. These students will be initiated tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 at Armstrong: William Douglas Bain, Edward Britt Bender, Luke Steven Bennett, Taylor O-Lynn Collins, Jacob Mitchell Derrick, Jacob Ryan Heffner, Noah Walton Hill, Hailey Elizabeth Horne, Kyler Andrew Mahar, Dustin Elliott Matlock, Abigail Taylor Mattox, Harrison Christopher Moss, Taylor Dee Smith, Richard Dalton Tudor, Faith Ann Walgenbach, Mallory Marie Wooldridge.

Two very special Christmas events are on the calendar for this week. Tonight at 7:00 the SBA will host its annual Christmas party, including a reading of “Twas the Night before Christmas.” Don your favorite Christmas sweater and join us for this annual tradition in the SUB. On Friday evening “Lessons and Carols” will be held in the auditorium at 7:00. For many, this special service signals the beginning of the beautiful Christmas season. This year’s program will include our Chorale as well as Blue Sound (the BMC band), and Impact (our drama team). I encourage you to make this a part of your holiday traditions.

Topper basketball fans have plenty of options this week. Our JV women are in action at home Tuesday night. The varsity men and women play Thursday and Saturday at home. Come out and cheer the Toppers on to victory!

Finally, tomorrow is “Topper Tuesday,” our name for our annual giving day. Follow the happenings all day on social media—and be sure to like and share so that more folks can learn about BMC. This year’s “theme” focuses on our “God-sized dream” for Blue Mountain College.

Blessings to all for a productive “dead week”!

Happy Thanksgiving Week to All!

Among the host of blessings for which I am grateful is the opportunity to serve at Blue Mountain College alongside each of you. For each gifted faculty member and each dedicated staff member I give thanks. For each faithful trustee I give thanks. For each BMC student I give thanks. For each loyal donor and friend I give thanks. “Abounding in thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6), I say thanks be to God for His unspeakable favor to us individually and to Blue Mountain College. May you and your family enjoy a restive season of reflecting on your blessings.

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jerri Lamar Kantack has been chosen as the 2017-18 HEADWAE faculty honoree at Blue Mountain College. Catherine Snyder has been selected as the student honoree. Dr. Kantack and Catherine will be invited to attend the 31st Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day—Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) program, scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the Jackson Marriott Hotel. Congratulations!

To allow everyone ample time to prepare the turkey for the big day, offices will close at 4:30 on Tuesday and reopen at 8:00 on Monday, November 27.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Afternoon,

I begin this week’s Monday Message asking that each of you remember in prayer the families affected by yesterday’s shooting at Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church near San Antonio, Texas. We pray for those who are grieving and for those who are recovering. May God grant them an extra measure of grace and peace.

The BMC blessing list is exceptionally long this week. Among the host of things for which we give thanks is the wonderful day we enjoyed last Friday as we celebrated Founders Day. Dr. Ron Madison challenged us to consider our legacy during Founders Day chapel and our own drama team, Impact, inspired us with their personal stories during the scholarship luncheon. Avery Thorn, Myra Gilmore, Hope Brown, and Logan McCoy expressed their gratitude for the generous support of our scholarship donors, representing all recipients very well. Macy Gibson, Nicholas McGlown, Joseph Taylor, and Dr. Darwin Brooks provided a beautiful musical interlude prior to the meal. Kudos once again to Chelsey Griffin for her leadership of the scholarship luncheon and to Kayce Bragg for her work on the Founders Day and Topper Fest activities. Congratulations as well to the cast and crew of Amahl and the Night Visitors; it was a lovely production.

I am thrilled to report that the BMC XC teams had a very impressive showing last Friday, with our men bringing home third place and our women capturing first place in the SSAC Conference Championship. As if that weren’t enough, our team won the sportsmanship award and Coach Laney earned Coach of the Year honors. If you are keeping track, this is two years in a row for our women. Go Toppers!

Congrats to Coach Bingham and the varsity men’s basketball team for their big win Friday night over Belhaven. The only home basketball action this week is Thursday evening when the varsity guys take on Crowley’s Ridge at 6:00 in Tyler. Varsity women and JV men and women are on the road.

I’ll be on the road myself part of the week with meetings in Atlanta on Wednesday and Thursday.

We will have special guests on campus Thursday evening as Dr. Kenny Digby hosts the Christian Action Commission banquet on our campus.

Days of class left: 15 (counting today) plus exams! Make the most of your time and prepare to finish well!

Fall at Armstrong!
