Greetings to all on this chilly Monday!

I begin with a word of congratulations to the BMC Chorale for their outstanding performance Saturday evening with the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Commemorating the music of World War I and World War II, the entire performance was stellar. Thank you, Dr. Long and Chorale members, for representing BMC so well.

Today begins another extremely busy week at Blue Mountain College. Several of us will be traveling to Jackson today to participate in the annual meeting of the Mississippi Baptist Convention. This year is a special one for BMC with our own Dr. Ronald Meeks delivering the convention sermon on Tuesday afternoon. Please say a prayer for Dr. Meeks as he prepares for this special service.

We look forward on Friday to welcoming many guests to our campus for our annual Founders Day celebration. Dr. Ron Madison will be our speaker during the 10:00 program. We will express our gratitude to our many scholarship donors at the annual scholarship luncheon following the program.

Amahl and the Night Visitors, a one-act opera, premiers this week with a matinee on Wednesday at 10:30 and performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30. Our Fine Arts faculty and students have worked diligently to prepare for what will certainly be a magnificent evening of entertainment.

Students, let me encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to complete your required FAFSA paperwork tomorrow. Between 9:00 and 3:00 our financial aid staff will be available in the conference room of the SUB to assist you in completing this critical step in the registration process. Bring your laptop and your FSA ID username and password. Get this done tomorrow so you don’t have to worry with this later.

Make weekend plans now to participate in Saturday’s Topper Fest and in the presentation of our Homecoming Court. With a host of vendors selling their wares you should have no trouble checking some names off of your Christmas list. The Fest begins at 9:00 and the homecoming celebration happens at 12:30 in the MLB. Congratulations to our homecoming maids and to their escorts.

Topper athletes will be covering lots of ground this week; check the website for specifics. Thursday evening will afford the only opportunity for home action as the varsity women’s basketball team takes on Williams Baptist at 6:00 in Tyler Gymnasium.

Happy Homecoming!

Good Afternoon,

I hope that your week is off to a great start. I am looking forward to our annual Humanities Lecture this evening by Dr. Stewart Bennett. We congratulate Dr. Bennett upon being named this year’s Humanities Teacher of the Year and look forward to hearing his lecture on “The Struggle for the Life of the Republic: A Civil War Narrative of Charles Dana Miller, 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.” The lecture begins at 7:00 in Garrett Auditorium.

Following the resignation of Coach Jon Nevol, Jermael Bingham has been named interim men’s varsity basketball coach. Please extend congratulations to Coach Bingham as he gives leadership to the Topper round ballers.

Congratulations are also in order for Ron and Charlesa Ambrose Jones. Ron and Charlesa were married Saturday, October 21.

I had the special blessing yesterday of visiting Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. I am thankful to Bro. Gary and Heather Linville for their warm welcome.

Greetings!
We awakened this morning to a beautiful fall morning following what I trust was a restful and pleasant fall break for each of you. We are now on the downhill side of the fall 2017 semester. Mid-term is behind us and the rest of the semester will most assuredly fly by.

This week offers a great opportunity to enjoy a special program from the Department of Fine Arts. Thursday evening our chorale, band, and drama team will present a Reformation Celebration concert in the Modena Lowrey Berry auditorium at 7:30. This promises to be a marvelous musical celebration of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, marking the launch of the Protestant Reformation. I encourage all to attend.

On Friday we will welcome the members of the Mississippi Baptist Convention’s Education Commission to our campus for their fall meeting.

Today marks the first day of employment for Ron Jones at BMC; Ron will serve as Blue Motion Project Coordinator. We are also pleased to welcome Page Rowland Thorn back to BMC to serve as the coach of our junior varsity cross country team. Please extend greetings to both Ron and Page as they return to serve at their alma mater.

I close today’s Monday Message with a word of thanksgiving regarding the campus revival. We witnessed an incredible outpouring of God’s grace and goodness—we saw God do what only God can do! Several have asked if we can do this again—absolutely!

Blessings to all for a great week!

Good Morning,
I hope that each of you enjoyed a delightful first weekend of fall. It is hard to believe that we are now just days away from our fall revival followed closely by fall break. Join me in continuing to pray for our nation, for our campus, and for our evangelist Phil Waldrep as he prepares to share the Gospel October 9-11. Let us anticipate together the amazing things that only God can do!

As a reminder, we want everyone to be able to attend as many of the revival services as possible. Please arrange your schedule so as to prioritize attendance.

As always, the first Friday in October brings to our campus our Board of Trustees. We are blessed with an engaged, dedicated group of men and women who serve with joy and lead with wisdom. Prior to their meeting on Friday morning, they will gather at Lowrey Memorial at 8:00 for their quarterly time of prayer for Blue Mountain College. Everyone is invited to participate if your schedule allows. I know that our Trustees would be encouraged to be joined by students, faculty, staff, and alumni to circle our campus in prayer. Dr. Tim Mims will be leading the devotional and giving direction to the prayer session.

I will be giving an overview of the Board agenda at a meeting for faculty and staff at 3:00 in the MLB auditorium on Wednesday.

Today and tomorrow I will be representing BMC at the annual Mississippi Association of Colleges meeting at MSU.

I close by offering a word of thanks to James and Linda Johnson for opening their home to us last week for a well-attended gathering of friends interested in promoting and celebrating the fine arts at BMC. We are grateful to the Johnsons, to all who attended, and to Drew Warford, William Thompson, and Laura Long for sharing their musical talents with us. On another fine arts note, I had the privilege of attending a rehearsal of our drama team's first performance. Great job, Impact!

Have a blessed and productive week!
