Dear BMC Campus Community,
Our hearts are heavy today as we reflect upon the devastating effects of the storms which have ravaged our neighboring communities and our region over the last few days. Our friends and neighbors in the Tupelo area are faced with many challenges in the aftermath of the powerful tornado that left many homes and businesses destroyed. Even as we voice our prayers of gratitude for God’s protection, let us be faithful to pray for the strength and safety of those who are now faced with digging out and rebuilding. Along with our prayers, we can seek opportunities to serve. One way to participate is to donate new or gently-used clothing in one of the collection boxes that will be located around campus. For more information, contact Dean Jack Moser, Mrs. Tracy Moser, Jessie Kellum, or my office. Another way to help is by donating to the Red Cross (text "redcross" to 90999 to make a $10 donation for Mississippi relief) or to the Salvation Army (text "storm" to 80888 to donate $10 for Mississippi relief).

Join me in congratulating our Lady Topper softball team for qualifying for the SSAC Championship tournament this week in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We are proud of you!

I will be traveling on Friday to the inauguration of Dr. Rodney Bennett as president of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Best wishes for a productive “dead week.”

Youths may faint and grow weary,
and young men stumble and fall,
but those who wait upon the LORD
will renew their strength;
they will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary;
they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:30-31

Holy Week Greetings to All!

The tone for this sacred season was set beautifully Monday morning by Rita Sweat’s depiction of Mary Magdalene in chapel. If you did not have the opportunity to be with us for chapel, I encourage you to watch the video (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bmc-chapel). You will certainly be blessed and moved by Mary Magdalene’s account of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord.

I covet your prayers as I will be traveling to Atlanta this afternoon for a mid-week SACSCOC meeting.

Wednesday will be a fun day on our campus as we welcome students here for Literacy on the Lawn.

Kaitlyn Bruno’s recital, originally scheduled for Monday evening, has been rescheduled for April 28.

Our men’s golf team is playing in the SSAC Championship tournament this week. The baseball guys play Freed at home today and then hit the road later in the week. The softball team has a double header at home on Friday.

The College will be closed on Friday in observance of Good Friday. May you each experience great joy in celebration of the risen Savior this Easter Sunday.

Greetings!

As I write this “late” edition of the Monday Message, I am being entertained by the sounds of students enjoying a beautiful spring afternoon. Kites are sailing, Frisbees are flying, and hammocks are swinging. It is good to be on the Hill on this lovely April day.

Here is a recap of some of the other events of recent days. Last Saturday Lea Bennett and I joined a great group of alums from the Greater Nashville area for fellowship over lunch. Many thanks to Frances Massey and Patsy Henry Highland for organizing this fine event. On Monday, Lea Bennett, Duane Bullard and I visited with a host of prospective students and friends of the College at events organized by Gary and Heather Linville. Thank you, Gary and Heather, for opening your home to us and for the opportunity to share the great BMC story.

Tuesday evening I was honored to be the speaker at ICC’s “Evening of Celebration Honoring Academic Excellence across the Curriculum.” Congratulations to each student who was recognized for his or her scholarly achievements!

Today I am traveling to William Carey University for the meeting of the MBC’s Education Commission. Please pray for safe travels and a productive meeting.

Kudos to the men’s golf team for setting a team record and for finishing in a tie for second place in the RedHawk Spring Classic at Canebrake Golf Club in Athens on Tuesday.

The baseball Toppers are on the road today and tomorrow; the women play at home both days. Come out and cheer them on!

Our own BMC Chorale will be in concert in chapel today. I know that their performance will be a blessing.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend ahead.
