Entering the admin this morning, I was greeted with a fresh new look (check out the pictures). The front entry and the hallway have been lightened and brightened with a new coat of paint. We are thankful for the team of volunteers from Harrisburg Baptist Church and from the Pearl River Baptist Association for their giving of their time and expertise to make Lowrey sparkle. The folks from Harrisburg were on campus last week; our friends from Pearl River came mid-week and are still with us working on other projects. As you see them around campus today, be sure to stop and tell them how grateful we are for their generosity and service.
As you pray, please remember our coaches who are traveling to the Southern States Athletic Conference meeting today at Auburn-Montgomery. Pray also for Lela Hale, who had surgery on Friday. Continue to remember our friend Richard Bradford, who is recovering from a stroke. Tom Kemner left our campus on Friday afternoon and was en route to Nairobi on Saturday. Pray for safe travels and a productive journey for him.
I am happy to announce that Dr. Nancy Kerns has accepted a faculty position at BMC. She will be joining us this fall as an assistant professor of English. Dr. Kerns holds the Ph.D. in English from Purdue University and will be coming to us from Victory University in Memphis.
Please keep in mind the importance of giving to the Annual Fund: http://www.bmc.edu/givingonline.asp
We have much to be thankful for today!
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth. II Thessalonians 1:3

Were we not blessed in great ways this weekend—two great commencement services and then a beautiful Mother’s Day! Our pastor yesterday encouraged us to affirm, acknowledge, and appreciate all that our mothers have done for us. In addition to reflecting on the love of my own mama, of my Aunt Lillian, of “Mom,” and Sam’s “Mimi,” I was reminded of all the great women who gladly and selflessly assumed the role of “on campus” mother to so many over the long history of BMC. From Sarah Holmes Lowrey to Modena Lowrey “Mother” Berry to Lottie Palmer Donnell to May Hall Buchanan to Sadie Lee Clark Wells to Frances Tyler to Lucille Travis—the list could go on and on. We affirm, acknowledge and appreciate the legacy of these godly women and their influence on the lives of countless Blue Mountain College students.
Here’s a special “shout out” to our fantastic faculty and staff, to the National team, and to the MMI team for going all out to make Saturday a wonderful day. If you would like to view the service, you can still do so by going to our website: http://www.bmc.edu/graduation_video.asp
To conclude, I’d like to remind everyone to please keep in mind the importance of our Annual Fund initiative. The College needs the support of our alumni and friends to finish strong this fiscal year. Your contribution will indeed make a difference. Thank you.

Seniors, this one is for you. This week you will turn in your last papers, make your final presentations, and take your last final exams. I ask everyone who is reading this message now to pause and say a prayer for our graduates. Pray that they will stay focused and finish strong. Pray that they will savor their last week on this beautiful campus, finding time to pause and reflect on what Blue Mountain College has meant to them. Pray that they will know the joy of a job well done, and pray that they will have a profound sense of peace about where God is taking them next. Seniors, have a blessed week. We are thankful for you.
We are looking forward to a great day on Saturday when, for the first time, we will hold two commencement services. Candidates for the B.A. and the B.S. degrees will receive their degrees in the 10:00 service. Candidates for the B.S. in Education and the Master of Education will be awarded their diplomas in the 2:00 service. A reception for all graduates will follow the morning service. I will have the privilege of addressing both groups.
A special word of congratulations goes to sophomore Kacie Harris, who has been awarded a Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship for post-graduate study at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Kacie, a biology major and cross-country runner from Tupelo, is the second BMC student to earn the scholarship in recent years. Way to go, Kacie!
I will be traveling tomorrow to the MAICU meeting at Millsaps.
It is another special week on campus, bringing to a close what has been a great year on the Hill. So many have done so much to contribute to a successful year. Faculty, you have planned, taught, counseled, encouraged, and supported—well done! Staff, you have processed, prepared, listened, and managed—great job! I am thankful for each of you.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Dr. Barbara C. McMillin President
