Dear BMC Community,

I hope that your Monday has been a good one.  This Monday Message is coming late in the day, but that gives me the opportunity to say how much I enjoyed our chapel service this morning.  It was a blessing to hear about the experiences of our students who were on mission during the Christmas holiday.  Let’s pray that God will water the seeds that were planted during these trips to Mission Arlington and to China.  Thank you, Tracy, for your leadership.
It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that Dr. Barbara Holland has announced her retirement at the end of the spring semester.  We celebrate Dr. Holland’s forty years as a teacher (seven here at BMC), recognizing the vast extent of her influence as an accomplished academician and as a mentor to many.  Dr. Holland, congratulations to you!
I am happy to welcome Chelsey Griffin to BMC as Data Manager for our Advancement area.  Chelsey, we are glad that you are here.
Congratulations to the Topper Baseball team on three wins—including two no-hitters—this weekend over Tougaloo.  Kudos to the Lady Toppers Basketball team for their win Saturday over Martin-Methodist.  The ladies play Judson tomorrow night at BMC.  Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams play at home Thursday against Fisk. Best wishes to the BMC Softball team for their home opener on Saturday against Williams Baptist. GO TOPPERS!
I’ll be speaking Wednesday at the Chalybeate Kappa Kappa Iota meeting.
Ponder the power of this promise as you journey into the week ahead:
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Good Morning, BMC Family!
I hope that everyone is well and ready to dive in to another busy week on the Hill.  I am pleased to report that we are starting Spring 2013 with a total of 515 students (including full- and part-timers).  We are grateful that these students have chosen the Christ-centered learning environment at Blue Mountain College in which to grow both academically and spiritually.
I’d like to offer a special word of thanks to Anna Quinn for graciously opening her home last Thursday evening for a recruiting event.  Thanks also to the BMC alums who provided the delicious refreshments.  It was a delight to meet several prospective students and their parents.
I enjoyed getting to meet several of our graduates this weekend at the Jackson-area alumni gathering.  It was a special treat to visit with Mary Jo Olander Dacus, class of 1945!
Come out and support the Toppers tonight at 6:00 and 8:00 as they take on Rust College.  The baseball Toppers will take on Tougaloo at 5:00 on Friday and then again at 1:00 on Saturday.
Please keep me in your prayers as my travels this week will include a trip to Georgia.

Good Morning,
Filling the hallway of Lowrey this morning was the hauntingly beautiful sound of classic hymns being played on a flute crafted from a piece of bamboo by one of our very own students, Chas Monaghan.  What a way to start the week!  The melody called to mind the hymnist’s prayer:  “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”  May that be our prayer as we begin the first full week of class at BMC.
Doesn’t it feel great to have our students back on campus!  May Spring 2013 be your best semester ever and may you pursue your studies with excellence, being diligent to think Christianly about your discipline and about how you will use new-found knowledge and skills to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.
I am pleased to announce that Jack Moser has accepted the position of interim Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services.  Please join me in congratulating Coach Jack and in lifting him up as he serves the college in this important role.
Congratulations to Brandon Hughes for a fine junior voice recital last Thursday evening.
The Lady Toppers had a big win on Saturday over Mid-Continent; the men fought a hard fight that ended in an overtime heart-breaker.  Guys, we are very proud of you!  You played with heart, determination, and Topper Tenacity!
Thanks to all of our students, faculty, and staff who pledged to pursue the BMC Kindness Challenge this semester.  Today is MLK Service Day; opportunities abound to kick off your commitment to acts of kindness and service.  Many thanks to Mrs. Jean Harrington and the SDO4 team for organizing today’s activities.
Please pray for me as I will be traveling to Belhaven tomorrow for a meeting with MAICU presidents.
Topper Baseball is back- starting this weekend!  The season kicks off Friday as the Toppers take on the Belhaven Blazers at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.  We hope to see many fans and alums there cheering on the team and enjoying the fellowship at the post game Bar-B-Q supper at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.  Contact Paige Harrell ( to make reservations.
Finally, please pray for the Executive Committee of our Board of Trustees.  They will be meeting on campus on Friday.
Blessings to all for a rewarding day of service.

Good Morning,

This is a day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!  After a warm and wet weekend, we’re back to more typical January weather—just in time to start the spring semester!  How good it is to see the campus come back to life as students return to begin classes tomorrow.

Please join me in welcoming our new students and in welcoming Dr. Lois Hammond, director of our online business program.  We are glad that you are a part of the BMC community.

On Thursday we will welcome to campus participants in the fourth annual Construction Conference sponsored by BMC and Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Please pray for me as I will be traveling to Mississippi College tomorrow for the spring meeting of the Mississippi Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and as I prepare to speak in chapel on Friday.

I am looking forward to an outstanding spring semester with you at BMC.  Let us continue to seek God’s favor, to stand firm on our mission, and to shine bright for our Savior in all that we do on the Hill.
Soli Deo Gloria!

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

I trust that you and your family enjoyed a joyful and restful holiday season.  We are grateful to our sovereign God for His blessings to us in 2012 and commit 2013 at BMC to Him, trusting in His providence and care.
Although most students have not yet returned to campus, members of our men’s and women’s basketball teams have arrived and are back in the swing of practice.  Both teams travel to Ecclesia College on Thursday; the men travel to Victory University on Saturday.  Play hard, Toppers!  Many thanks to all of the individuals and groups who have provided meals for our teams during the holiday break.  Special thanks to Lea Bennett for organizing this initiative.
Please pray for me this week as I will be speaking to the Tupelo Rotary Club today and to the Century Civic Club in Ripley on Thursday.  On Friday I travel to Mississippi College for a meeting of the Education Commission of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
Join me in welcoming Duane Bullard to BMC in his new role as Development Officer.
Progress continues to be made at the Sportsplex site; thank you once again to all who have provided support for this significant endeavor.
Allow me to express once again our gratitude to the many, many supporters who have contributed to our Annual Fund; you are making a difference!
May God’s blessings be yours this week.
