Although today is a rainy day and a Monday, let’s use these circumstances to remind us of how God showers us with blessings and of how He graces us with new beginnings.
Here at the college we have been greatly blessed in many ways—one of which includes our friendship with Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) McClure Pattillo, an alumna of the class of 1949. It saddens me to report that Mrs. Pattillo passed away on Saturday. A celebration of her life will be held today at 11:00 at Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia; Tom and Bettye Coward will be attending the memorial service. As you may recall, Mrs. Pattillo was presented with an honorary doctorate at the Spring 2012 Commencement. Our prayers are with the Pattillo family as they reflect on the life of a woman recognized by all for her integrity, her character, and her quiet, gentle spirit. For these characteristics and for Elizabeth McClure Pattillo’s vision for excellence in education, we give thanks. The tribute to Mrs. Pattillo that was shared at Commencement is attached.
This week’s events include the Constitution Day observance in chapel today , the faculty/staff meeting at 3:30 this afternoon, and the CRV banquet on Thursday evening. On Friday we will be led in chapel by Dr. Jim Futral, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
Congratulations to the Topper softball team for three wins on Friday. Way to go, Coach Barefield! Good luck to our women who are playing in the Freed-Hardeman invitational golf tournament today and tomorrow.
