Good Morning, What a busy week we have before us! We are eight days away from the start of the 2013-14 academic year, and we have a host of events and activities designed to get the year off to a great start. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at our first faculty/staff meeting on Wednesday at 1:00 in Fisher-Washburn 108. We’ll be using that time to review the recent work of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and to collaborate on goals/strategies for the next long-range plan.
Allow me to offer a special word of welcome to those BMC faculty and staff members who will be observing their first fall on the Hill.
*Dr. Emily Derrick, Assistant Professor of Psychology *Dr. Kendall Honea, Associate Professor of Exercise Science and Chair, Department of Kinesiology *Dr. Nancy Kerns, Assistant Professor English *Mrs. Angie Skelton, Instructor of Business *Daniel Rodgers, Resident Director, Cockroft
Duane Bullard, Dale Cutrer, Chelsea Griffin, Brad Hill, Vanessa Jones, Christina Smith, and Jeannie Thompson joined us during the 2012-13 academic year, so this will be their first fall at BMC. Please join me in extending a warm Blue Mountain welcome to each of these individuals.
Later this week faculty will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Dee Fink, author of Creating Significant Learning Experiences (Jossey-Bass, 2003). We are honored to have Dr. Fink on campus and eager to learn from his insights and experience.
Finally, Friday evening will be a very special event as we gather at Ray Dining Hall for Convocation. Our speaker for the evening is Dr. Carla Sanderson, Union University Provost. I know that we will be blessed and inspired by Dr. Sanderson’s words.
As the picture below confirms, baby koi don’t like to pose for a picture, so if you would like to see them more clearly you will need to visit the pond in the Little Dell. They are the newest inhabitants on the Hill.
May God’s favor rest upon us as we continue the tradition of excellence begun 140 years ago.
