I trust that everyone enjoyed a pleasant weekend and we are ready to take on another week. August has replaced July on the calendar and has brought with it the sense of anticipation for “back to school.” There’s just something in the air that says it is time to purchase new backpacks and new binders, to stock up on erasers and highlighters, and to listen for the early morning rumble of the school bus. When I see a big yellow bus I’m always reminded of Mr. Everett McMillin and later “Coach” Gray, the drivers of #99, who transported me the three miles to and from school every day. These consistent servants displayed daily their patience, care, and concern, making a lasting impression on each of their young passengers. Let’s remember and encourage all those who return to school today and are afforded opportunities to make positive and lasting impressions.
An encouraging word for this week: Christ promises that consistent servants who are pure in heart “shall see God.” (from The Gentle Art of a Servant’s Heart by Charles R. Swindoll)
I will be traveling on Saturday to Hattiesburg, where I will have the privilege of speaking at the 1:00 commencement at William Carey University. Please pray for me as I prepare for this opportunity.
