Perseverance
Dear BMC Family,

Since I will be off campus this coming Monday, I'm going to consider this very late communiqué as both this week’s and next week's "Monday Message." Even though summer didn't officially arrive until late last week, first summer term is already behind us, and we are one-fourth of the way into second term. Teaching and learning in the short terms require considerable "Topper tenacity"--kudos to faculty and students alike for your perseverance during these intense summer sessions.

I'm often asked what administrators and staff members do during the months between the regular semesters.  As I'm sure all involved would agree, there is no shortage of activity as we are busy tying up loose ends from one academic year and making preparations to begin a new one.  Among those preparations are efforts to enhance our campus in ways that will serve our new and returning students when they arrive on campus for the fall semester.  I'm putting this word out to anyone who would like to sponsor a couple of student activity projects that would undoubtedly prove to be very popular with our students:  namely, an outdoor basketball court and a sand volleyball court.  These are relatively small-scale projects that can be done fairly inexpensively.  If you would like to help, or know someone who would be interested, please contact me for more information.

A project of greater magnitude is, of course, the BMC Sportsplex.  Thanks in advance to all who have registered to attend this evening's Sportsplex banquet sponsored by the North Mississippi BMC Alumni Club.  We are especially grateful to the "superpac" participants for underwriting this event, which is designed to garner financial support for this important new facility.  The importance of moving forward with construction of the Sportsplex cannot be overstated:  the baseball and softball Toppers need a place to practice and play right here on campus, and the golf teams need a practice range.  Having our own facility will enable us to host intercollegiate competitions at home in a venue that is comparable to those found on the campuses of our competitors.  We believe the Sportsplex will serve as yet another reason students will want to attend Blue Mountain College.

In closing, thanks to Larry McMillin, Chris Driskell, Stan Irwin, and the members of the National Management team for providing us with this beautiful patriotic display on the Green.  It is a wonderful way to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.  Next Monday Message:  July 8

May God bless each of you with a safe and happy holiday.
