Greetings, The countdown has begun! We are only days away from the return of students to the beautiful Blue Mountain College campus. In the 100 or so days since we gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2017 a host of transformations have occurred here on the Hill. Tyler Gymnasium has undergone a facelift, including a remodeled foyer and attractive new signage (Thank you, Class of 1967!). The band hall is stocked with instruments and already in use; the SUB is sporting new furniture, courtesy of Ashley Manufacturing in Ripley. A new 44-space parking lot occupies the corner of Main and North Mountain Streets. The College’s academic and athletic logos have been revised, and the grounds have been manicured like never before. The completion of the Mountain Village and the Southplex Annex will afford spacious and comfortable living quarters for up to 56 additional residents.
To underscore our Christ-centered mission, the first phase of what I call the Deuteronomy 6:9 project is nearing completion; classrooms across campus will feature words from scripture reminding us of God’s promises and protection. A prayer room is being equipped on the third floor of the Admin, providing a place where students, faculty, and staff can adjourn for quiet reflection, meditation, and intercessory prayer.
Needless to say, it has been a busy summer of extensive preparations—all for the purpose of welcoming and welcoming back a wonderful group of students to BMC. For the opportunities the summer has afforded us, we say thanks be to God!
I close this Monday Message with a word of congratulations to Provost and Vice President Dr. Sharon Enzor. I am pleased to recognize her service to Blue Mountain College with this new title that reflects more accurately the expanse of her contributions to our students and our campus.
I look forward to seeing our new employees at orientation tomorrow and to greeting everyone at the Blue and Gold Dinner at 6:00 on Thursday evening. I hope you can join us for what promises to be a fun-filled kick-off to the new academic year.
Pray for the campus revival: October 9-11 with Phil Waldrep.
