I trust that your Christmas and New Year observances were filled with much love, joy, and peace. As we work our way back into the swing of things, you perhaps have found yourself pausing to figure out what day it is, or maybe you are finding it hard to write “2017” after practicing “2016” for so long. Instead of settling smoothly back into our daily routine, now is the opportune time to form some new habits. I was challenged this morning as I read leadership guru Tim Elmore’s description of his end-of-year ritual: he sets aside time to review the prior year and then spends half a day writing his “action list” for the coming year. This list features ways in which he plans to grow during the 365 days that together form 2017. His list includes his answers to the following questions:
What are my greatest dreams for 2017? What projects will these dreams require of me? What daily actions must I engage in to fulfill them?
What standards will I live by, throughout the next year:
In what areas of my life do I most want to grow in 2017?
What books will I read this next year to achieve those growth goals?
What mentors will I seek out to achieve those growth goals?
What magazines will I scan and file to achieve those growth goals?
What events will I attend to achieve those growth goals?
What podcasts (audio recordings) will I listen to, to help me grow?
What will I do Monday through Friday to be intentional about my growth?
Perhaps these questions will prompt each of us to devise our own
intentional growth plans. May we indeed discover new and productive
ways in which to grow together at BMC in 2017!
With our students still
away enjoying the break, our activity list this week is shorter than
usual. Our men’s and women’s basketball teams take to the road to
compete against the College of Coastal Georgia and Brewton Parker on
Thursday and Saturday. Pray for their safe travels.
Staff are invited to participate in the next GROW BMC prayer session at 11:00 Wednesday in the auditorium. At noon on Friday Dr. Ronald Meeks will lead the quarterly trustee prayer session, also in the auditorium. Dr. Meeks has planned a time of “upper room” reflections; please plan to participate in either or both of these important gatherings. If you can’t be on campus, please plan to pray where you are.
Have a blessed week!

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen. II Peter 3:18
