Good Morning, Finally, Election Day has arrived, and we are now just hours away from the votes being tallied to reveal our new president. I encourage everyone to exercise the privilege that is ours of voting. The polls in Mississippi are open until 7:00 p.m. A government-issued photo ID is required. Please continue to pray about this election and for our nation. Ponder these wise words from Max Lucado: “I have a prediction. I know exactly what Nov. 9 will bring. Another day of God's perfect sovereignty. He will still be in charge. His throne will still be occupied. He will still manage the affairs of the world. Never before has His providence depended on a king, president, or ruler. And it won't on Nov. 9, 2016."
It is Missions Week in chapel; we will look forward to hearing from our students who have served or will be serving as summer missionaries around the world. On Friday we will hear from Jennie Taylor, associate director of the Collegiate Ministry department of the MBC.
Join me this week in celebrating the tremendous accomplishments of our cross country teams. Our men's team took fifth place in the SSAC conference meet, and our women's team brought home first place! This great win earned for them the opportunity to compete in the Nationals on November 19 in Elsah, Illinois. Go, Toppers! I am also happy to announce that Phillip Laney was named SSAC XC coach of the year. Kudos to Coach Laney!
The varsity women’s basketball will be in action tonight at Tyler gym at 6:00, taking on Williams Baptist. Make plans to come out and cheer the Toppers on before settling in to watch the election results. Both varsity teams will be on the road Friday; our Topper bowlers will participate in the Spring Hill tournament in Mobile over the weekend. We appreciate the great crowd that came out last night to cheer on the JV basketball teams; these Topper teams return to the hardwood next week with the men at home on the 15th and the women traveling to West Memphis on the 18th.
I am looking forward to addressing Union County’s Retired Education Personnel at 10:00 on Thursday and then traveling on to the University of Mississippi to represent the College at Dr. Jeffrey Vitter’s investiture as Chancellor. Blue Mountain College extends congratulations to Chancellor Vitter, to his family, and to the Ole Miss community.
Friday we will welcome numerous prospective students and their families to campus for the final fall preview day. Let’s roll out the red carpet and make these special guests feel very welcome.
Only 13 class days left before exams—students, stay focused and plan to finish well!
