Mid-term grades have been reported, and we find ourselves now on the down-hill side of the Fall 2016 semester. The time has come to observe Fall break, which we will certainly enjoy this Thursday and Friday. Offices will be closed as faculty, staff, and students take a few days to recover from the busy beginning of the academic year and to prepare for the hectic pace of finishing the semester.
On Tuesday evening we will have the privilege of hearing Dr. L. Darwin Brooks, Assistant Professor of Music, deliver this year’s Humanities Lecture on “The Growth of Music Education in America from Billings to Mason.” The public is invited to attend and stay for the reception in honor of Dr. Brooks immediately following the lecture. The lecture begins at 7:00 in Garrett auditorium; the reception will be held in the Anderson Room at Guyton Library. Congratulations to Dr. Brooks for being this year’s Humanities Teacher of the Year at BMC.
Please remember to join us Wednesday morning at 7:30 in the MLB auditorium for our campus-wide time of prayer for our College and for our country. We will be led by our MA’s.
I had the pleasure this morning in chapel of introducing our new Athletic Director, Will Kollmeyer. As Coach Driskell focuses his full attention on coaching our women’s basketball team, Will takes the reigns to oversee our intercollegiate athletic program. Having served more than twenty years as a sports director/anchor/reporter for first WTVA then WCBI, Will brings to Blue Mountain College a wealth of experience covering and promoting college sports. He worked for ten years as Director of Public Relations and Sports Information at ICC and continues to provide play-by-play for Ole Miss on the SEC Network. We are excited to welcome Will to this new role and expect our programs to continue to flourish under his leadership. For the time being, Will’s office is in the former admissions area in the space previously occupied by Chelsey Griffin. Chelsey now resides in the same suite in the office next to Brett Fowler.
Congratulations to our XC teams for finishing third (women) and fifth (men) this past weekend at the Watson Ford Invitational. Our runners head to the Choctaw Invitational on Saturday.
Keep me in your prayers today as I will be traveling to the Mississippi Association of Colleges annual meeting in Natchez.
Have a safe and restful fall break!
