"Pomp and Circumstance"
Good Morning,

Even though it seems that the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” are still echoing through the halls of Lowrey, August has arrived, bringing with it all the excitement that accompanies the start of another academic year at BMC. The days before we welcome a host of new and returning students to the Hill are few—and the to-do lists are still long—but it will all fall into place!

Today marks a special anniversary for me as it was four years ago today that I had the privilege of beginning my tenure as the eighth president of Blue Mountain College. I pause at this moment to thank God for the innumerable ways in which we have witnessed His goodness and grace on each of these 1,460 days! I am also grateful to each of you; the McMillins are blessed to call you family and to work alongside you in pursuit of the mission of BMC.

As you may have already heard, Friday was Austin Kimbrough’s last day at BMC. He is leaving his post here to devote more time to the ministry. Austin has ministered here to many students and particularly those who wear the Topper baseball uniform. We are thankful for his dedicated service to BMC and pray God’s continued blessings to him and his family. (I understand he may be on campus today; look for an opportunity to wish him well.)

How thankful we are for the need to observe another day of registration on Thursday! It’s not too late to become a BMC student, so keep spreading the word about the opportunities to grow at Blue Mountain College.

Tomorrow at 8:30 U.S. Representative Trent Kelly is scheduled to visit our campus. We will host an informal “meet and greet” in the foyer of the admin. Faculty and staff are encouraged to come by and offer a word of welcome.

We would be far from ready for the fall were it not for the tireless efforts of a number of volunteers representing churches from across the state and from Alabama. The following groups have spent countless hours on campus this summer constructing, remodeling, painting, weeding, and cleaning:

Liberty Baptist, Newton, MS
Smithville Baptist, Smithville, MS
Bartahatchie Baptist, Amory, MS
FBC Amory
FBC Ripley
Harrisburg Baptist Church, Tupelo, MS
Harmony Baptist Church, New Albany, MS
Brandon Baptist Church, Brandon, MS
Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL

Thank you for sharing your time, your talents, your energy, and your expertise at Blue Mountain College!

Our volunteers have done so much to make so many projects happen; on Friday we will take the opportunity to put on the finishing touches by observing “Campus Beautification Day.” With your PC member’s approval, you may elect on Friday to participate in one of the campus projects that Joyce will be sharing with you by email. Given the volume of activity this time of year, we know that not all staff will be able to participate. Please check with your PC member before you commit to working outside of your office. MMI will provide lunch for all who are involved in this project. Thank you in advance for helping make our campus shine!

Blessings to all for a great first week in August.
