I trust that everyone has enjoyed the time away. This is the day of the new year when our resolutions become official—or at least that is how I approach them. (It’s tough starting a diet or exercise program when you are technically still “on holiday”!) As we begin 2016 I would like to share with you a challenge that a friend shared with me several years ago. As I re-read this challenge just this morning, I resolved afresh to pursue these attitudes and actions in 2016:
1. Let’s be more amazed that we are forgiven than that we are right. 2. Let’s focus on the magnificent things we hold in common. 3. Let’s look for, and assume, the best motive in others’ viewpoints, especially when we disagree. 4. Let’s avoid gossiping altogether. 5. Let’s identify evidences of grace in each other and speak them to each other and about each other. 6. Let’s speak criticism directly to each other if we feel the need to speak at all.
A source of encouragement to me each day is the email devotional that I receive from Bible Gateway with excerpts from the writings of A.W. Tozer. It’s called “Tozer on Christian Leadership.” If you are looking for a new devotional to start off the new year, I recommend that you subscribe to this one.
We will start the new year off with some great basketball action tonight in Tyler Gymnasium. Both teams take on Brewton Parker. The women play at 5:30 followed by the men at 7:30. Come out and cheer on our Toppers! Both teams will be on the road Thursday and Saturday.
This year our Board of Trustees is taking the lead in making prayer a priority at BMC. The first quarterly prayer meeting will be this Friday at 11:00 in the sanctuary of Lowrey Memorial. Bro. Randy Bostick will lead our prayer time as we focus on thanking God for His blessings upon our College and on lifting up our petitions for BMC. You are welcome to attend if your schedule permits.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9
