Savor the Season
Good Morning,

Yesterday I came across a picture of Buddy the elf from the movie of the same name. Acknowledging that Halloween is over and November has arrived, Buddy asks, “Can we start talking about Christmas now?” Like Buddy, I’m always excited to talk about Christmas—but let’s not be in such a hurry to get to Christmas that we miss the opportunity to savor the season of Thanksgiving. While the colors of fall are still with us, let’s use the days leading up to the Thanksgiving break to concentrate on the many reasons to be thankful at BMC. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:6

I’m thankful for the extra hour we enjoyed by “falling back” over the weekend because this is going to be a busy, exciting week. I hope everyone was able to rest up for the Humanities lecture, for the beginning of basketball season, for Founders Day, for Topperfest, and for Homecoming. We kick the week off today with the opportunity to hear from our own Dr. Delise Teague in chapel. We’ll enjoy our first action on the hardwood tonight as our Toppers take on Fisk University at 5:30 and 7:30. This evening will mark the debut of our Topper cheerleaders. At 7:00 in Garrett auditorium this year’s featured humanities lecturer is Dr. Elizabeth Crews. She will deliver an address on “’The Still-Existing Parts of a Life’: The Correspondence of Eudora Welty and Editor Mary Louise Aswell.” This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday evening our men will take on Crowley’s Ridge College at 7:30 in Tyler Gymnasium. Our cross country teams travel to MC on Friday to compete in the SSAC Conference Championship meet. Go, Toppers!

On Friday we will welcome alumni and friends back to campus for the celebration of Founders Day. This year’s program features a look back at the history of our “Victorian house.” Many members of the Palmer and Donnell families will be with us for this special emphasis. We will share information on Friday on how to support our initiative to complete the renovation of this home and prepare it for use as a welcome center.

Other special guests on Friday will include the many individuals who have given so generously to support our endowed scholarship program at BMC. These guests will attend our annual scholarship luncheon and have the opportunity to meet the student or students to whom their scholarships have been awarded. Friday evening at 7:00 Cliff Duren and Overflow will perform in the Modena Lowrey Berry auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Cliff will conduct a workshop for worship leaders on Saturday. Check the website for information on registration for this event.

On Saturday Topperfest runs from 9 until 2, offering fun for the whole family, including arts and crafts, live music, face painting, flu shots, food, and more. Upon arrival be sure to register your attendance and become eligible for the grand prize—a beautiful painting of the Little Dell by our own Bill Dowdy. Take a break from your shopping/dining at 12:30 to enjoy the presentation of our Homecoming Court in the MLB auditorium. Basketball action starts at 2:00 with the women taking on Freed-Hardeman, followed by the men against Louisiana College. What a day! What a week!

Dr. Sharon Enzor returned to campus on Friday afternoon for the first time since her fall on October 2. Welcome home, Dr. Enzor! Please remember to pray for her as the healing process continues.

I am grateful to the many who have responded so quickly to our 2015 Annual Fund initiative. Your support for BMC is vital and highly appreciated. Thank you!

Members of the community, Tebow tickets are now on sale. Call 662-841-6528. For more information, check our website.

Enjoy a wonderful week at BMC!
