Watching and listening last evening as another round of inclement weather pressed through our area, I observed something distinctive about how a storm makes its presence felt here on the “mountain.” Those of you who reside here with me will agree that thunder here doesn’t simply clap or roar—it truly rumbles. It is as if the first reverberation sets off a sound effect that isn’t exhausted until the system is entirely spent. The rumble seems to begin deep in the storm clouds and then ricochet back and forth between hill and sky, between Armstrong and Lowrey, offering a memorable performance and yet another stunning display of celestial power. In response to all of this, I stand amazed yet again of our Lord, who with a simple command calms the wind and silences the storm (Mark 4:39).
After a stormy evening, we begin another busy week at BMC. Today we welcome participants in the State Preaching Conference. We pray for a productive and inspiring day for each of these special guests.
On Wednesday the BMC Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Greg Long, will begin their spring tour, which will include stops in south Mississippi and the Florida panhandle. For Dr. Long, Mrs. Laura Long, and the entire Chorale, we pray that their travels will be safe and that their performances will be truly worshipful experiences for all involved.
Our baseball and softball teams will also be on the road throughout the week. Congratulations to Coach Fowler and the baseball team for two great wins over a highly-ranked Auburn-Montgomery team over the weekend! Congratulations also to our men’s golf team for receiving the SSAC Sportsmanship Award. To receive such an award is an excellent testimony of your ability to conduct yourself with civility, character, and integrity in the heat of competition. Let’s offer a round of applause as well for golfer Scott Milam, who was named an All-SSAC golfer last week.
On Tuesday evening at 6:00 please come and show support for Thomas Rakestraw and Brandi Long as they present a joint senior recital in Garrett.
Birthday greetings this week are in order for Allison Rameriez, Kacie Alley, Angelica Hunt, Josh Cline, Nancy Huerta, Benecia Barkley, Carie Gayden, Anna Dixon, Micah Russell, Anna Ash, Dr. Mitzi Dunagan, Steven Wilbanks, Renita Gossett, Miss Johnnie Armstrong, and Rita Newby.
With mixed emotions I announce today that Joan Herrington will be leaving us this summer to relocate to North Carolina. Joan’s sweet spirit and encouraging ways will certainly be missed here at BMC. Please join me in thanking Joan for her more than seven years of service here at the College.
May God bless this new week at BMC!
