I begin this week by offering a sincere thank you to all who participated in the Founder’s Day events on Friday and in the Topper Fest events on Saturday. Jim Buchanan and Leora Duce enlightened and encouraged us with their addresses during the Founder’s Day chapel. A special thank you goes to Zac Gooch and Rachael McFatridge for their spot-on portrayals of John and Emma Armstrong. As always, we are grateful to Dr. Long and the BMC Chorale for leading us in worship through song. A big, big thank you goes to our Alumni Association and to Nancy McDonald for their hard work in planning these special events.
Kudos to Chelsey Griffin, Kayce Bragg, David McDonald, and Lynn Gibson for putting together a wonderful scholarship luncheon, a great open house at the southplex, and an unforgettable evening with Ellie Holcomb Saturday night. Thank you, Lynn, Joan, Kayce, Taylor, Anna Beth, Beverly, Michelle, and Deborah for heading up a fine Topper Preview Day.
While many of us were enjoying the Topper Fest activities on Saturday, one group spent the day working in the SUB to renovate the area once occupied by the bookstore. We are thankful for the work of Mr. Billy Matkins (husband of Dr. Kay Matkins, former professor here), Dr. Jeff Sweatt, Dr. Terry Taylor, Mr. Brian McElroy, Mr. Wayne Alexander, Dr. Terry Cutrer, and Mrs. Dale Cutrer.
We look forward to observing missions day in chapel today and to hearing from our BSU Fine Arts teams on Friday. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the BSU spaghetti supper Thursday evening.
Today we welcome our cooperating teachers from area schools. We are thankful for our partnership with each of these teachers.
Please mark your calendar with a big star on Thursday evening. Our BMC Chorale will present Vivaldi’s Gloria! At 7:00 in the MLB auditorium. What a great way to begin the holiday season! Invite a friend to come with you to support our chorale and to enjoy this magnificent musical presentation.
The home basketball season begins Saturday at 4:00 when our men take on Morthland College. Let’s show our support by packing out Tyler Gymnasium! Topper men and women are on the road at Tougaloo tomorrow; the women will be on the road Saturday.
I’ll be hitting the road again today through Thursday doing SACS work. Pray for safe travels.
The semester is flying by; only three weeks of class remain followed by exams. (Students will enjoy a week-long Thanksgiving break!) Make the most of your time and plan to finish well!
Tomorrow is Veterans Day. Let us not miss the opportunity to salute the men and women who have served our country so valiantly. They fought for us.
Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless and with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen. Jude 24-25
