Good Morning,

Filling the hallway of Lowrey this morning was the hauntingly beautiful sound of classic hymns being played on a flute crafted from a piece of bamboo by one of our very own students, Chas Monaghan.  What a way to start the week!  The melody called to mind the hymnist’s prayer:  “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”  May that be our prayer as we begin the first full week of class at BMC.

Doesn’t it feel great to have our students back on campus!  May Spring 2013 be your best semester ever and may you pursue your studies with excellence, being diligent to think Christianly about your discipline and about how you will use new-found knowledge and skills to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

I am pleased to announce that Jack Moser has accepted the position of interim Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services.  Please join me in congratulating Coach Jack and in lifting him up as he serves the college in this important role.

Congratulations to Brandon Hughes for a fine junior voice recital last Thursday evening.

The Lady Toppers had a big win on Saturday over Mid-Continent; the men fought a hard fight that ended in an overtime heart-breaker.  Guys, we are very proud of you!  You played with heart, determination, and Topper Tenacity!

Thanks to all of our students, faculty, and staff who pledged to pursue the BMC Kindness Challenge this semester.  Today is MLK Service Day; opportunities abound to kick off your commitment to acts of kindness and service.  Many thanks to Mrs. Jean Harrington and the SDO4 team for organizing today’s activities.

Please pray for me as I will be traveling to Belhaven tomorrow for a meeting with MAICU presidents.

Topper Baseball is back- starting this weekend!  The season kicks off Friday as the Toppers take on the Belhaven Blazers at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.  We hope to see many fans and alums there cheering on the team and enjoying the fellowship at the post game Bar-B-Q supper at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.  Contact Paige Harrell (pharrell@bmc.edu) to make reservations.

Finally, please pray for the Executive Committee of our Board of Trustees.  They will be meeting on campus on Friday.

Blessings to all for a rewarding day of service.

Good Morning,

This is a day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!  After a warm and wet weekend, we’re back to more typical January weather—just in time to start the spring semester!  How good it is to see the campus come back to life as students return to begin classes tomorrow.

Please join me in welcoming our new students and in welcoming Dr. Lois Hammond, director of our online business program.  We are glad that you are a part of the BMC community.

On Thursday we will welcome to campus participants in the fourth annual Construction Conference sponsored by BMC and Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Please pray for me as I will be traveling to Mississippi College tomorrow for the spring meeting of the Mississippi Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and as I prepare to speak in chapel on Friday.

I am looking forward to an outstanding spring semester with you at BMC.  Let us continue to seek God’s favor, to stand firm on our mission, and to shine bright for our Savior in all that we do on the Hill.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

I trust that you and your family enjoyed a joyful and restful holiday season.  We are grateful to our sovereign God for His blessings to us in 2012 and commit 2013 at BMC to Him, trusting in His providence and care.

Although most students have not yet returned to campus, members of our men’s and women’s basketball teams have arrived and are back in the swing of practice.  Both teams travel to Ecclesia College on Thursday; the men travel to Victory University on Saturday.  Play hard, Toppers!  Many thanks to all of the individuals and groups who have provided meals for our teams during the holiday break.  Special thanks to Lea Bennett for organizing this initiative.

Please pray for me this week as I will be speaking to the Tupelo Rotary Club today and to the Century Civic Club in Ripley on Thursday.  On Friday I travel to Mississippi College for a meeting of the Education Commission of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

Join me in welcoming Duane Bullard to BMC in his new role as Development Officer.

Progress continues to be made at the Sportsplex site; thank you once again to all who have provided support for this significant endeavor.

Allow me to express once again our gratitude to the many, many supporters who have contributed to our Annual Fund; you are making a difference!

May God’s blessings be yours this week.

Good Morning!

As you are no doubt aware, the shopping days left until Christmas are in the single digits; perhaps your to-do list—like mine--is still quite long.  It is so easy to become caught up in the “hustle and bustle” of the season that we miss the opportunity to marvel in its beauty and its true meaning.  Let’s take time to pause and give thanks for the greatest gift of all—Emmanuel, God with us!

Today is a red-letter day for Blue Mountain College as several of us will be traveling to Baptist College of Health Sciences to sign an agreement to partner in offering several programs, including medical sonography, medical technology, radiography, radiation therapy, respiratory care, and business/healthcare administration.  One hundred years ago Dr. B.G. Lowrey and Dr. W.T. Lowrey articulated a vision that ultimately led to the formation of a healthcare system that has now touched the lives of thousands upon thousands of Mid-Southerners; today that vision will be extended to include new opportunities for Blue Mountain College to partner in the provision of healthcare education, a venture which we will trust will serve to enhance the original mission.  For this partnership with BCHS, we are grateful.

Please remember our men’s basketball team as they travel to and from Morningside College in Florida for today’s game.  Go Toppers!

Offices at BMC will close on Tuesday, December 18, at 4:30 and reopen Wednesday, January 2, at 8:00.  Monday Messages will resume on January 7, 2013.

Best wishes to all for a blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year!

Good Morning,

This Monday morning finds me in Dallas, where Dr. Enzor and I are attending the annual meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Please pray for productive meetings and safe travels back to the Hill.

Finals are over and students (with the exception of  our Basketball teams) are at home with their families.  We were blessed with a fine fall semester.  Many thanks to our outstanding faculty and staff for their work in making the Fall 2012 semester a great experience.  Thanks be to God for His blessings upon us!

The Toppers Basketball teams traveled on Saturday to Walnut Ridge, AR to take on Williams Baptist. Congratulations to our Lady Toppers who brought home a win. Both teams fought hard to keep the contests close. Please remember the Lady Toppers on Tuesday as they travel to Hattiesburg to take on William Carey, and both teams on Saturday as they travel to Batesville, AR to take on Lyon College. GO TOPPERS!!

Many of you have commented about the lovely nativity scene that graces the front of the campus.  If you haven’t had an opportunity to see it, we invite you to come by, take a look, and reflect on that holy night long ago in Bethlehem when shepherds knelt before the newborn King.  If you can’t make it by, here’s a picture of the scene.  Thanks to Larry McMillin, Chris Driskell, Amy Thurmond, Joey Etheridge, and members of the facilities management team for putting this scene together for our community to enjoy.

Thanks to all who continue to contribute to the Annual Fund and to the Sportsplex.  We appreciate you!

Good Morning!

Monday came and went in a whirlwind of activity, causing the Monday message to become the Tuesday message.  We are now in Day Two of Final Exams.  Please join me in praying for our students as they take exams and for our faculty as they give exams and complete their grading.  Please pray also for our students as they travel to their homes for the holiday break.  Our hope is that all will enjoy a restful and joyful time at home with family and friends.

Many thanks to all who came out to the Groundbreaking for the Sportsplex yesterday. We were blessed with a beautiful day.  I look forward to the day when we pack the bleachers to watch the Toppers at bat—at home!

I want to offer a special word of thanks to Tommy Peters, Chris Driskell, and Amy Thurmond for their amazing work in decorating Armstrong for the holidays.  It looks like something right out of Southern Living!  Thanks also to Tommy Peters, Lea Bennett, and Paige Harrell for hosting at the receptions yesterday.

Congratulations to the men’s and women’s basketball teams for two great wins on Saturday. Please remember both teams on Saturday as they travel to Williams Baptist.  Go, Toppers!

Thanks again to all who are contributing to the BMC Annual Fund!  We are so blessed by your generosity and your support.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Good Day!

I hope everyone enjoyed a great time with friends and family and had plenty of turkey and dressing over the holiday!  Larry, Sam, and I enjoyed counting our blessings and anticipating the season of Advent.

To the many supporters who have already contributed to the Annual Fund, we are so very grateful!  Your contributions have made an immediate impact on the work of the College.  May God bless you for your generosity and for your ongoing support of BMC.

Congratulations to Beverly Moffitt for the wonderful article in Friday’s Daily Journal which chronicled her career and highlighted her love for BMC.  Beverly, we are so glad that you are here!

Our hearts are saddened this day by the passing of Hilda Hill.  Mrs. Hill, a dynamic member of the class of 1951, distinguished herself through her professional career as an educator in North Mississippi and served as Dean of Students at Blue Mountain College.  She received an honorary doctorate from the College in 2011.  Our prayers go out to the members of Mrs. Hill’s family.

Please pray for faculty and students this week as we enter the last week of class before final exams.   Undoubtedly, many papers and projects will be written and graded this week.  Pray for stamina and focus for all to finish strong.

Pray for me on Saturday as I address the WMU at New Baptist in Myrtle.

This Thursday evening at 4:30 faculty and staff, along with their immediate family members, are invited to gather for hot chocolate and cookies before posing for a Christmas photo in the Modena Lowrey Berry auditorium.  At 6:00 we will proceed to Lowrey Memorial for a time of lessons and carols in preparation for the Christmas season.

Our basketball teams will be traveling to play Morthland College today.  The men will play at home against Life on Thursday at 7:00.  Both teams will make their last home stand before the holiday on Saturday against Huntingdon and Dillard.

Many thanks to Tommy Peters and all the crew responsible for making the campus so beautiful for Christmas.  If you haven’t been on campus lately, we invite you to come by and enjoy the holiday décor.

Anyone in need of furniture, desks, tables, etc. will want to check out the “warehouse” sale this Saturday at the education building from 7:00 until noon.

May God’s blessings be yours today.
