Content Literacy for Secondary Education
Classroom Management for Secondary Education
Dr. Bridgette Davis holds undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry with a traditional route secondary education licensure. She taught secondary science classes for almost 10 years. In her first few years of teaching she realized that students actually love science but struggle with the language of science. Because secondary educators receive so little instruction in teaching “reading” and integrating literacy instruction into content areas, Davis sought the help of elementary teachers thinking that their training in content area reading methods would be beneficial. However, she discovered that elementary teachers also lacked an understanding of how to integrate literacy into the content areas. Frustrated, she began a research study that led her to pursue a doctorate degree in secondary literacy from the University of Southern Mississippi. ●
