Message from the Department Chair:

Thanks for visiting the home page of the Department of Language and Literature at Blue Mountain College.

The department offers five degree programs: BA in English with an Emphasis in Literature, BA in English with an Emphasis in Writing, BSED in English and BSED in Spanish. All five programs emphasize a balanced approach to the study of literature and language offering students instruction in writing, literature, communication, and the intricacies of language. Recent graduates from our department have pursued graduate degrees at reputable universities and seminaries, serve as teachers across Mississippi and Tennessee, write professionally in a variety of capacities, work as medical interpreters, and participate in a variety of other careers.

The department also offers a variety of extra-curricular activities. English majors and minors may participate in three active organizations sponsored by the Department: the English Club, an active organization that promotes the appreciation of writing and reading as well as service to the community; Sigma Tau Delta, the international honor society for English majors and minors, and the Scribblers Club, an organization dedicated to the invigoration of creative writing on the Blue Mountain College campus. Spanish majors and minors can participate in the Modern Foreign Language Club. The department also houses three campus publications: The Mountain Breeze, a literary journal; The Mountaineer, the BMC yearbook; and The Seer, a campus newsletter.

We are proud of our students and their accomplishments, and hope you will consider joining us.

Dr. Mikki Galliher, Department Chair
