Financing Graduate School

Dear Graduate Student,

Congratulations on your decision to enter the Master of Education Degree Program in Elementary Education at Blue Mountain College.  We are very excited about this program of study and pleased to welcome you on our campus as a valuable member of the student body.  Our focus at Blue Mountain College is to assist in the development of servant-leadership through excellence in scholarship and a deep commitment to service within a Christ-centered environment.  From the very moment you arrive on campus. it will be evident that Blue Mountain College is truly "a place for people who want to make a difference".

If you are requesting financial assistance for your program of study at Blue Mountain College, there are a few very important steps:

Step 1.    File a FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) online at www.fafsa.gov

       NOTE:  No financial aid can be processed until the FAFSA is submitted.

Step 2.  Apply for state Aid online at www.mississippi.edu

  1. Submit an on-line application for the Graduate Teacher Loan / Scholarship (GTS) at www.mississippi.edu for current teachers in an accredited Mississippi (K-12)School.  (Application  Deadline is March 31)  Funding assistance begins at enrollment for 2008 Summer semester and continues for twelve (12) consecutive months, or;
  2. Download application for the Mississippi Teacher Fellowship Program (MTPF) at www.mtfp.net for those currently teaching or willing to teach in a Mississippi Critical Shortage District as defined by the Mississippi Department of Education.  (Application Deadline is May 1).  Funding begins at enrollment for the 2008 Fall semester and continues until the completion of the program.  A student may choose to enter the MFT Program in the 2008 Summer semester but no MTFP funds will be available until the 2008 Fall semester.

        NOTE:  Applicants can not request both MTPF and GTS -- Only one State Program may be chosen

Step 4.  If further financial assistance is required, you may request a loan by filing a Loan Request Form available from the Office of Financial Aid.

If you have never requested a loan previously at Blue Mountain College, you are required to complete Entrance Counseling on-line at www.studentloans.gov. A financial aid counselor can lead you through the quick process when the loan request is submitted. Paper copies are available upon request.
