Director of the Teaching and Learning Center

The Director of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) coordinates the activities of the Blue Mountain College Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), which offers tutoring services and academic support to all BMC students and assists faculty members in enhancing student engagement, developing innovative teaching pedagogies, and redesigning courses.

In addition to teaching one course per year and supervising the student tutoring staff and daily activities of the TLC, the Director will serve as the campus leader for the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) titled “CARE: Enhancing Student Learning through Cooperation, Active Learning, Redesign, and Engagement.” As such, the Director will bring a fresh vision and knowledge of current scholarship on teaching. One of the primary responsibilities of the Director will be guiding faculty cohorts as they work collaboratively to redesign and implement courses. In addition, the Director will collect and disseminate information concerning student engagement, course design, best teaching practices, and innovative pedagogical approaches and will be responsible for organizing a teaching resource library housed in the TLC, and organizing relevant campus-wide faculty development events in coordination with the Office of Academic Affairs. The Director will also cooperate with BMC administration and departments to support their efforts to enhance and review teaching and will consult with individual instructors about improvements in their teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director will serve as the campus spokesperson and leader in explaining the purpose, goals, and objectives of the TLC and QEP; serve as chairperson of the QEP Implementation Committee; work with the Office of Academic Affairs in establishing appropriate resource libraries (one for faculty development and one composed of student resources) and consultation hours; plan and publicize faculty development workshops ( least two each year) and conduct academic skills workshops for students (as needed); organize faculty cohorts and support groups for those faculty members actively participating in each stage of the QEP; assist individual faculty members with course planning and redesign efforts; create and maintain an online teaching and learning resource page for faculty members and an academic skills resources page for students; attend conferences (and workshops) on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and related subjects; and work with the Director of Library Services to create a list/catalog of relevant library resources addressing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and related topics.

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in an appropriate teaching field and at least five years of full-time teaching experience at the college level (or at least three years of full-time teaching experience at the college level in addition to five or more years teaching at the secondary level). The candidate must have extensive knowledge of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and related areas of research as demonstrated by publications in academic journals, participation in workshops, and conference presentations. In addition, administrative experience, preferably in faculty development or teaching support centers

Chair of the Department of Business and Assistant/Associate Professor of Business Administration

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-Time Position, Nine-Month Appointment; Assignment to academic rank will be commensurate with experience and education.

REQUIREMENTS: The ability to articulate and support the Christian mission of the institution; earned doctorate in the discipline; preferred professional experience appropriate to the discipline; excellent computer and educational technology skills; proven administrative skills; ability to work relationally and collaboratively with internal and external constituents.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual will serve as the chief administrative officer of the department including both administrative and departmental leadership functions; have ultimate oversight of and accountability for administrative aspects of the operation of the department; represent the department and serve as its liaison with other administrative units within the College; and provide leadership for the department in formulating strategic plans and assessment procedures based on a shared vision of the goals of the department and the college. The individual will teach a wide variety of undergraduate Business Administration courses. Among the courses taught may be Business Communications, Business Statistics, Principles of Finance, Marketing, Management, and International Marketing. Applicant should exhibit both an interest in an ability to teach a wide variety of courses in an undergraduate business administration program. The candidate will work with other faculty members and students in curriculum development, student advising, and student placement. The individual will assist with recruitment and marketing the major.

Faculty Position in Spanish

RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities include teaching of undergraduate courses in Spanish or tangential fields as required by the College and specified by the Department Chair. The faculty member should carry out professional activities, research, and writing projects within the discipline as appropriate, advise students on their academic programs and scheduling, and perform service duties as needed within the department and college. In addition, the faculty member is responsible for developing courses, programs and overall curriculum in the field; interfacing with local schools, churches, or businesses to arrange for senior projects, internships, and other mutually beneficial activities; and staying current in the discipline through scholarly activity and professional development. The responsibilities also include serving as program coordinator for the Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and the Bachelor of Science in Education in Spanish.
