I was told something today that I thought you would love to hear. I had
to attend a TST meeting at Pierce Street in Tupelo and was talking to
the counselor before the meeting started. When I told her I was from
BMC, she got really excited. She said that she loves to see BMC interns
because they come out doing more and being better prepared in the
classroom. She has never had any problems with any of the BMC interns
she has worked with. Since she was bragging so much on our program I
thought that I would share.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from
Blue Mountain College in May 2002. As I completed my studies there I
felt more than prepared to enter the teaching profession. The things I
learned from the textbooks I used during my time there played only a
small part of the confidence I gained. The instructors at Blue Mountain
imparted knowledge to me that can’t be learned from any book. Their
years of valuable experience and sincere desire to give every child a
chance to be successful in school and in life left a permanent
impression on me. The lectures forced me to search my heart and decide
that education was indeed the path I wanted to take with my career.
There is no doubt in my mind that I am where I am today because of the
people who make up the education program at Blue Mountain College.

Blue Mountain College is the perfect place for future teachers to train
for their profession. The professors are friendly and personable, always
ready to answer questions either during class or outside of the
classroom. Small class sizes develop a unique level of student bonding,
creating a lively atmosphere of cooperative learning and active student
participation. I love the fact that I get to work closely with my fellow
classmates on in-class assignments and on more involved projects.
Thanks to the large amount of time we get to spend in actual elementary
classrooms, I feel that I am prepared and well equipped every time I
walk into a classroom to teach a lesson, and that feeling of confidence
is the best feeling in the world.

Every element of the Literacy Block taught me valuable lessons that I
will carry with me throughout my career as an educator. The Literacy
Block provides students with hands-on interactions among fellow
classmates at Blue Mountain College as well as with the elementary
students with whom they work. It is my opinion that the Literacy Block
has completely equipped me to be the best teacher I can possibly be. For
that reason, I will ever be grateful. The Literacy Block instructors
are excellent molders of clay, helping shape future teachers. Their
infectious compassion for education inspired us to do our best and live
up to the expectations set for us. I am thankful for the opportunity to
have been shaped by such caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable
instructors in the Literacy Block. I will use their inspirational
teachings as I continue my education. One day, when young impressionable
minds are placed in my hands, I plan to use those same teachings to
shape future members of society.

I am writing to express how extremely proud I am to have been blessed
with two Teacher Interns from Blue Mountain College. I had an intern
last fall and now one this spring. I want to commend you and the
Education Department at BMC on producing the most excellent, well
organized, teachers. They are truly ready to teach when they enter the
classroom. They come with the ability to jump right in and help the
students.
Ten years ago, I graduated from BMC, and I think that the program has
improved to become the best in Mississippi. My colleagues have had
teacher interns from other colleges and universities but their drive for
teaching and love for the children was not as prominent as the interns
from BMC. I commend all of you on your hard work and commitment to
producing excellent teachers for our future. |
