Drama Team

Blue Mountain College’s 2018-2019 Drama Team, IMPACT, is excited to be performing It’s Not Too Late-a Christian drama inspired by the Columbine tragedy. It is a story of decision people make about God.

Playwright Dick Lentz writes at the beginning of this script, “Few of us will forget what happened at Columbine High School April 20, 1999. I was moved to view this tragedy from a spiritual standpoint. A person’s relationship with God affects their outlook on life as well as their ability to cope with it. The path they choose to take, especially the choice they make about God, has enormous consequences for their lives as well as for the lives of others.

This play is about choices, especially the choice about God. It shows what can happen when a person turns their back on God and gives in to what lies within. For some, it is too late to take a different path in life. But for the rest of us………It is not too late.”

Director’s Notes:
This play caught my attention because it is relevant, well-written, and offers a message of hope. This production does not recreate the shootings. It is inspired by the Columbine tragedy, but it is a fictional depiction of what took place before the incident. It takes the audience to what happens in one day at a high school. As we are introduced to the humble custodian and an assortment of lively students and teachers, the dynamics of these relationships are unraveled and the choice of what these people place their faith in (themselves or God) is revealed. It is a powerful dramatic story of how the choices we make to believe in God or not impact our lives and the lives of others for eternity.

The show takes about an hour and includes a talk back with the actors.

Performance will be scheduled for the spring semester (January–April) of 2019. There will be limited performances, and they will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.

To reserve your performance, please contact IMPACT Director, Christi Mitchell, at 662-685-4771 ext. 113 or email her at cmitchell@bmc.edu.

During 2017-2018, Blue Mountain College’s debut Drama Team, IMPACT, made a tremendous first appearance traveling the region and sharing their original performance, “This is My Story, This is My Song” with 13 different venues. “This piece was all heart,” director Christi Mitchell said. The 30-minute drama was inspired by this past year’s chapel theme, “This is My Story,” and depicted personal stories that show the power of faith in Jesus. “We are so grateful for all churches and venues that invited us to share our performance with them and supported us with love offerings, delicious dinners, and prayer,” Mitchell said. “It was an awesome experience, and we look forward to what the Lord has instore for us this upcoming year.”

IMPACT team members include: (from left to right) Jessica Clevenger, Hope Brown, Joey Ellis, Lauren Mallory, Ken Buchanan, Emily Canoy, Tyler Atkins, Mikayla Rayburn, and Benjamin Mann.
