INFORMATION FOR 2018 CANDIDATES FOR DEGREES(More complete details concerning commencement preparation and services will be provided by the Registrar in early April.)
1. APPLICATION FOR DEGREE
Each candidate for degree must submit an electronic application for degree to the Registrar by September 29, 2017.
2. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COMPLETION OF GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
By your degree date (May 5, 2018; July 20, 2018; or August 12, 2018), all of your work for your degree must be final and on file in the Office of the Registrar. YOU, THE STUDENT, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING THAT ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET BEFORE THE GRADUATION DATE.
Off-campus courses - Independent study (correspondence) courses (and any other credit earned at another college or university) must be completed, and a transcript of the credit MUST be on FILE at Blue Mountain College by your graduation date.
Incomplete courses - An "incomplete" grade is the equivalent of an "F" as far as hours and quality points are concerned; therefore, an "incomplete" grade in a course needed to fulfill a degree requirement will postpone your graduation to the next available degree date. NO student will be awarded a degree if work is still "incomplete".
3. ORDER FOR ACADEMIC REGALIA
All students who are completing degree requirements December 2017, May 2018, and July/August 2018, must participate in the commencement service. The rental fee for 2018 will be included in the $80 graduation fee. Seniors who will not be registered at Blue Mountain College in the spring 2018 semester will be emailed a request and instructions for measurements for the regalia.

Students who have earned a minimum of one-half the total required degree hours at Blue Mountain College and who have, at graduation, an average of 3.60 or higher on all hours attempted (less repeated courses) at Blue Mountain College will be recognized for their outstanding academic achievement at graduation. Those students will be notified in writing and will wear a gold honor cord at the commencement service.
9. PRAXIS TESTS SCORE REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHER LICENSURE
The Mississippi State Department of Education requires specific tests and minimum scores on those tests for teacher licensure. Test scores must be sent to Blue Mountain College for filing in the student's permanent record folder.
10. EDUCATOR LICENSURE
Upon graduation and completion of all PRAXIS tests requirements, the Registrar will set up an electronic file in the state ELMS online licensing system for the students completing a teacher education degree program. Once the Registrar has set up the completer's file and verified endorsement areas, the program completer will need to make application for licensure at the following Web Site: https://sso.mde.ms.gov/Login/Login.aspx. The State Department of Education requires an official transcript showing degree completion for each licensure applicant. The fee for this service is $10 ($15 if paid by credit card), payable in advance. See section 11. Transcripts for additional information on requesting official transcripts.
Transcripts are issued only at the request of the student. Each graduate is entitled to one free official transcript. The official transcript, which includes all coursework completed and degree details, will be mailed to the graduate upon his/her graduation. The fee for each additional transcript is $10 ($15 if paid by credit card), payable in advance. Transcript requests forms are available in the Office of the Registrar. Information on how to request a transcript is also available at www.bmc.edu. Follow the "Academics" link to "Office of the Registrar" information.
