About the Department
The Blue
Mountain College Department of Fine Arts and Speech offers professional
preparation and practical experience in the areas of art, music, speech &
theatre. Five degree programs are available: the Bachelor of Arts in Music, the
Bachelor of Arts in Worship Leadership, the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, the
Bachelor of Science in Music, and the Bachelor of Science in Music Education. A
minor is also available in art, music, and theater. Students are always welcome
to select courses offered in this department as electives and for personal
development.
The performing
musical ensembles/opportunities of the department are Chorale (the premier BMC
choral ensemble), Worship Leadership Teams (chapel services), and fully staged
musical theater productions.
The Fine Arts
faculty include: Dr. Greg Long, Chairman (Worship, Conducting, and Voice),
Mr. Jim André (Theatre and Speech), Dr. L. Darwin Brooks (Piano, Music
Education, and Theory), Mr. Bill Dowdy (Art), Dr. Jerri Lamar Kantack (Voice,
Music History, Diction and Theater) and Mrs. Laura Long, (Theory, Choir and
staff accompanist).
The Department
strives to enhance our student body, college community, and churches within the
region by offering courses and content that is relevant to contemporary needs
and which establishes a strong foundation for the future as God leads our
students to serve in many different careers and locations.
