Blue Mountain College began its 2017 commencement season with its annual Awards Day program that recognized student achievement in various academic disciplines and leadership areas.

Dr. Jenetta Waddell (center), chair of the BMC department of education, presented the awards.

John Gory (left), a senior elementary education (K-6) major from Sherman, received the Outstanding Teacher Intern Award.

This recognition is given annually by the Mississippi Association of Colleges for Teacher Education to a senior at each Mississippi college and university offering a bachelor of science in education degree.

Qualifications for the award include a high grade point average, demonstration of outstanding teaching ability through performance in the teacher internship and other field experiences, outstanding character, and interpersonal skills.

Megan Bishop (right), a senior elementary education (K-6) major from New Albany, received the Euna Mann Nabors Elementary Teacher Award.

This award was established by Euna and Grady Nabors and is presented annually to a senior who, in the opinion of the faculty of the department of education, manifests integrity, progressiveness, scholarship, a love for children, and a sincere interest in becoming an elementary teacher.
